Veins

Facial veins, also known as broken blood vessels or capillaries are characterised by fine red to purple lines that cause a reddish color to the skin. There are various factors such as heredity, sun damage, rosacea and pregnancy that can impact the system leaving the capillaries more visible. We understand that for some of our clients the appearance of facial vessels can be unwelcoming and distressing. Thankfully at Your Skin and Laser we can safely and effectively treat the removal of facial vessels with our medical grade laser, Cutera Excel HR—one of few in Wellington.

  • What can I expect during the treatment?

After an initial consultation, the Clinician will determine if a laser treatment is appropriate for your skin. The treated area will be cleansed and you will be provided with safety glasses to wear before beginning your treatment. On a basic level, this treatment works by the laser passing over the skin and targeting the blood in the vessels. This in turn heats up the blood and causes it to stick or coagulate, the blood vessels collapse and are slowly reabsorbed by the body. The Cutera Excel HR handpiece has a sapphire cooling tip which cools the skin to 8 degrees. The cool tip minimises discomfort and protects the skin from damaging any surrounding tissue.
  • How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments will depend on the size, thickness and color of the vessel. Superficial vascular lesions are typically easier to treat and some patients may even notice significant improvement after just one treatment. However, on average it takes 3 to 4 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart to achieve the desired result. Treatment time is quick and shouldn't last longer than 30 minutes.
  • What can I expect post treatment?

After the treatment, the skin usually appears red and there can be mild to moderate swelling which can last a few hours. The vessel often disappears immediately. Some vessels may appear darker in appearance—this is normal. The advantage of laser treatment is that you can return to normal activities right after treatment.
