SKIN PEELS

There are a wide range of peels which vary in their contents and intensity, all of which are exfoliating procedures that produce a post-procedure peeling effect on the skin. The ultimate goal of any peel is the removal of the skin’s outer layer of primarily dead cells, and to stimulate collagen and elastin that tightens and firms the healthy layer beneath. This procedure can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, blemishes and more—with little to no trauma to healthy skin cells. The key to a successful treatment lies in the peel’s contents. CosMedix peels take on a process that is known as metabolic peeling and achieves dramatic results without the irritation and consequent recovery time of a true chemical peel. On a primary level, the peel is prompting the skin to undergo a renewal process using natural, chirally correct ingredients filtered in their most elemental form to contain only the purest, skin-safe molecules. Skin peels fall under categories of superficial, medium and deep and based on your skin concerns and the health of your skin a peel will be selected. Post treatment downtime will also vary depending on the strength of peel performed.

Please contact us to discuss your specific treatment requirements.

  • What can I expect pre treatment?

On arrival you will be asked to complete a consultation form, this helps us to collect necessary information about your skin, medical history and treatments you have recently had. In our private treatment room, your Clinician will go over your consultation form and to make sure you are suitable for treatment. Here your Clinician will guide you through the need-to-know information regarding your treatment, create an individualised treatment plan and explain post treatment care. This is an opportunity for you to discuss any questions or concerns that you may have. During your consultation your Clinician will also recommend any products you may need to start using prior to your treatment to ensure your skin is well prepped and to reduce the possibility of adverse reactions. Certain products may need to be used anywhere between 2-4 weeks prior to having your first treatment. Laser treatments on the face must be avoided for two weeks prior to undertaking a peel procedure.
  • What does the procedure feel like?

Patients often describe the treatment as a warm to hot sensation which is normal—and in fact desirable for efficacy of the treatment. This gradually subsides within about 1-2 minutes. Most patients are able to tolerate chemical peels without much discomfort.
  • How long does a peel take?

Typically peels take about 15-30 minutes, although medium depth peels can take about 45 min.
  • What can I expect post treatment?

Superficial peels work on the top layer of dead skin cells. For a few days following a superficial peel some exfoliation might be experienced, but in general this treatment usually leaves you with a refreshed glow post treatment. Peels for acne or skin damage may be a little more exfoliating, leaving the skin a bit flushed, close to a mild sunburn. With medium depth peels you may experience moderate exfoliation for up to a week. Due to the difference in ingredients, side effects of chemical peels can vary from peel to peel, person to person. The most common side effects are flaking, peeling and mild dryness. Rest assured this is the desired result, it is the skin cells regenerating to improve the skin.
